No. i haven't visited it (sadly). But could be a good trip, specially end of May.

In our newspaper DELO, which is printed in big format (let us say A2 format for a page), this morning the whole page was devoted to Castle Blair and the (only) legal privet army of Duke Murry of Atholl. Half of the page is covered with smashing pipe band marching in front of the castle. A short history and some details about parade end of May... Band members are dressed in Murry of Atholl tartan, with dark blue jackets with red or white collars and cuffs, white belts, red/white diced hose....

It used to be very important castle on the way toward Inverness and is one of the most beautiful castles in GB that can be seen by the tourists.

In my opinion definitely worth of visiting (already on my "to see" list).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blair_Castle

<a...

We're (I'm) learning every day. Just yesterday I found out about Ian Hamilton and about Stone of Scone. There was a film on TV , "Stone of Destiny", (which I'm afraid I saw only last 2 minutes) about taking the Stone on Christmas Eve 1950 from Westminster Abbey. But it was enough to make me think and search on the Net. Well, it was not totally true, but at least based on reality. It was important act in busting Scottish national awareness.

Hamilton and his accomplices were charged, but never prosecuted.

So I thought I'd mention it here and include a couple of links to quite good accounts of why the Scots celebrate Hogmanay (which coincides with, but is
technically not, New Years' Eve/Day) rather than Christmas (although the latter has grown in 'popularity' over the last 30yrs or so).

in favour of unwritten, undocumented pre history, but I feel it is a very important part of Scottish history, the very first chapter, there are few written

the kilts are not coming along. I need a light load and more multi-purpose clothing that I am not too worried about leaving behind.

However since this is the Kilt forum with the most European based membership I thought I would ask for recommendations on places to see, stay, and eat while in

Sorry for not being around for a while, just wondering where the Gathering 2009 forum went, anyway, was there talk about meeting up there?
Hamish, we will meet of course, we're staying at the same place, another lass from Tassie is also staying there, one of our dancers...

I hope Leslie and I will get to meet some of our other kilted brethren.
