Oslo Whisky Festival 2009

I spent Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at the Oslo Whisky Festival. There were several master classes with visiting whisky luminaries, among them Rachel Barrie of Glenmorangie and Dr. Koichi Inatomi, formerly of Suntory, Micheal Heads of Ardbeg, and Vicky Stevens of Laphroaig. The Norwegian Nosing Championship took place on Saturday, where the contestants had to identify 6 different whiskies in 40 minutes. A great time was had by all, including Yours Truly. Kudos to the festival...

Ulster Kilt at Wisley

A few quick pictures of my new Ulster kilt on it's first trip out, D.C.Dalgliesh 16oz, really lovely fabric to work with, although a little more expensive I think it's even a little nicer than Lochcarron Strome which I'm working on at the moment , so it was easy to compare them.
I've been keen for a long time to have my own district kilt, and this being based on one of the oldest tartan samples excavated was perfect!!

I work part-time as a volunteer in a charity shop in Torremolinos. At first I got a fair number of comments about my skirts, but now no-one blinks an eyelid any more. I do just two days and helpout when other staff are absent.
It is pleasant and interesting as we have plenty of regulars that come in several times...

Leather Kilt on the Rezlands this Weekend

Was out on the Navajo reservation and the Hopi reservation this weekend. I visited Coal Mine Canyon on the Hopi reservation yesterday. Its not publicized much. The only way to reach it is on long dirt rez roads...but it is majestic. The canyon is totally undeveloped. Its even unmarked from the closest paved road. This pic is just a small part of it. Couldn't tell if the edge was undercut or not but most of the cliff edges around there were so just took a quick venture to the edge to...

Tweed Kilt

While in Edinburgh in May I had a kilt made by Jeffrey (Tailor). I ordered in while in Glasgow and picked it up two days later in Edinburgh!
fantastic service, here I am with the lass who made the kilt, she checking the fitting. Yes I am badly dressed - just spent the day walking around the city.

You have probably all seen the backyard of Grenoble. Here are a few shots of my surroundings on the Costa del Sol, and the places I go walking or cycling.

Just finished a week of Scottish country dancing and sightseeing.
One of the hotel waiters was a bag-piper from Galicia. Unfortunately he was not allowed to give us a taste of his music, but the tables with kilted men got the best service.

Cruise to Norway

Have been meaning to get round to this for some time!

In June I went with my mother on a cruise to Norway on the Fred Olsen Line ship Boudicca. So this is a travelogue as well as a kiltalogue.

The second night was a formal night and we were heading towards Stavanger.

I've just finished a kilt for a client in the States, he is going to a wedding in Mexico and wanted something in white or cream, and not too heavy, we had lots of chats and emails, and settled on a cream linen herringbone, he has recently sent me some photos, and I'm just very pleased to see that it fits! and that it does seem to be what he was after.
