Great pics! Interesting to see the plain kilts. I also like the battle dress blouse - looks good with a kilt! I used to have one of those, bought at an army
surplus store 25 years ago. Too bad I don't have it any longer

I just love these pics, just shows how timeless the Kilt really is.

Also interesting to see just how many didn't wear the sporran, one has to ask why, was it not part of the uniform ? did they not have enough to go round
? or was it just down to personal preference ?

I love these historical pictures
I'm amazed to see they wear their sporrans uncomfortably low. and how many of these poor soles made it through the hell that was WW1, forget the kilts for one moment, spare a thought for themPoor sods

All the above photo's are of one regiment, the London Scottish, formed in 1793 and in 1859 was commanded by Lt Col Lord Elcho, they where I believe the first British Regiment to not wear the Red coats of the British army, Lord Elcho clothes them in the Hodden Grey, to avoid any inter clan animosity and because he considered "A soldier is a man hunter. As a deer stalker chooses the least visible of colours, so ought a soldier to be clad." Chris |
