Crash/EnglishBloke-Readers: Good to know I have company in my dislike for PomPoms! I too, had heard that it marks a Scots Bunnet from a Frenchie Beret--but they do not look much alike, at least to me, thoe the 'unwashed rabble' may not know the difference. I had heard it was a style that had its origins from a knitted hat- I noted on a knitted ladies hat of my wifes, that it was finished with a bit of yarn left loose at the top. The yarn could be 1-worked back into the hat body 2- made into a 'tail' 3-or I guess, a Toorie. It may be a modern military style, I know it was not used in circa 1775. With my wool & linnen broad bonnets I have sewn up, i made a VERY SUBDUDED toorie for them--as a nod to convention and style. The modern toories look like a badgers butt on a bad hair day, sitting on your bunnet top!
Did I stir up any other thoughts out there?
With thanks
