I find many of the photos sent to the forum are to wide to be viewed on my screen (I sometimes get about a third of the surface only).
A little cropping and improvement would not be a bad thing.
P1M's photos are always very good, but so big !
Here is one I have cropped (not resized) to see if it fits better on a computer screen (one need not use all the megapixels that the camera makers advertize!):

the pic still does not fit on my screen, but only one person gets cut off like this.

I like the vertical layout of the left-hand margin, thank you Steve.

Photos uploaded to the Yuku image albums are automaticly cropped to 760x760 pixels max.
I always crop my pictures before I upload them to avoid the scrolling as much as possible.

Btw...Steve just installed a new feature on the Picture forum...this enables you to put the member details underneath the avatar instead of next to it. This will reduce the need to scroll....it's on top of the forum...under the banner.

Nonetheless...all are encouraged to crop their images, but those with a small screen/low resolution will probably still have some problems.

I should imagine that the key is the resolution rather than size of the screen as this will show smaller or larger according to the size anyway.

If you can try changing the resolution of your screen Martin. I appreciate that this will make other things smaller, such as icons and text.

I have a widescreen monitor, but even on the "ordinary" ones with a higher resolution setting render the full picture at one go.

OK - here's the detail on the new feature:

It's only in the Picture Gallery.

Look at the top of the screen, under the banner. You'll see a couple of links:

Horizontally (the default) is what we're used to. Vertically is the new format.

Clicking the links changes how the poster info is displayed from this:

...to this:

The theory is that with the poster info displayed in a smaller horizontal space, there's more room for the photo itself, and less need for horizontal scrolling.

The code behind this uses a cookie to 'remember' your preference and show you the same format next time you look at the picture gallery.

before I post any pic on any site-

I adjust the saturation, contrast, sharpness... I crop, I resize, and fix blemishes and distracting things in the background... and many other adjustments....

my pics are often larger than other peoples- but that is how I like them- large, clear, and bright.
